10 chemistry experiments that could go wrong with serious consequences

Hello and welcome to my first post! In September, it will be ten years since I embarked on my NQT year. I remember back then watching the video below filmed for Teachers TV at CLEAPSS. Since then I have conducted most of these demonstrations and class practicals snag free. So to know the common pitfalls watch this excellent video.

Number 3 – Generating hydrogen: I use a much simpler set-up. 1-2 cm magnesium strip and 1M hydrochloric acid in a test tube with a boiling tube inverted over the top of the test-tube. The hydrogen collects in the boiling tube and can be easily tested away from the source of hydrogen generation.

TOP TIP for NQTs: Ring fence one of your PPAs and a laboratory each week to practise experiments in advance of your lessons.
